Timeless Elegance at a Private Italian Villa | A Quietly Luxurious Wedding at a Private Villa in Italy
Virginia & Federico
Virginia and Federico met in 2008, at a sailing school in Sardinia. What began as a friendship quietly grew over the years into something deeper, shaped by shared time, shared laughter and a profound understanding of each other’s values. In 2020, they stepped into a romantic adventure together, one they never looked back from.
Their bond is rooted first and foremost in joy. They laugh together, always. But beneath that lightness lives a deep alignment, built slowly as they grew into adulthood side by side. A shared love for aesthetics, for exploration, for beauty found both in adventure and in stillness. And above all, a gentle nostalgia for past eras, for objects, places and atmospheres that carry memory and meaning.
Virginia works in the world of antique and vintage jewellery, Federico in classic cars and historic motoring. Their references reflect this sensibility: solitary trees in open fields, Anglican cemeteries, the crisp air of winter mornings in the mountains; rolling countryside before a summer storm, historic manor houses, the anticipation of setting out towards unknown places. Their inspirations span literature, cinema, history and craftsmanship, all united by elegance, integrity and a timeless sense of beauty.
What mattered most to them on their wedding day was bringing together the people they love. Family and friends arriving from Florence, Milan, France, Switzerland, Germany and the UK, all chapters of their lives converging in one place. What they feared was losing themselves in the pace of the day, forgetting to live it fully, or not finding enough time for each other amidst the celebration.
Their answer was simple: fun, authenticity and presence.
They chose Federico’s family home in Piedmont, Castello di Torre Ratti, a place rich with memories, intimacy and meaning. A private villa not chosen for grandeur, but for what it holds. The atmosphere they envisioned was playful, slightly chaotic, bucolic, and quietly elegant. A celebration that felt lived-in rather than staged.
From the very beginning, their request for photography was clear. They wanted reality, not perfection. Details and disorder. Hands intertwined, shadows on walls, fleeting glances, moments behind the scenes. The aftermath of dinner tables marked by red wine stains. Children running through rooms. The beauty of what remains once the moment has passed.
They welcomed creativity, too. A few intimate portraits before the celebration unfolded. Quiet moments inside the castle, playful references to old cinema, the feeling of an Italian film still. But above all, they wanted the soul of the party, the truth of the day, to be preserved.
This approach aligns naturally with the way I work.
Photographing on film means accepting time, imperfection and uncertainty. It means slowing down, observing carefully, and trusting light and instinct. Film does not chase perfection, it embraces atmosphere. It renders color softly, allows shadows to breathe, and carries within it a sense of memory even before the image exists.
Virginia and Federico were drawn to this way of working because it mirrors how they experience life. Their wedding was not about control, but about trust. Trust in the people around them, in the place that held them, and in the moments unfolding naturally.
Family played a central role throughout the day. Living abroad has meant distance and absence, especially for Federico, who lost his father two years ago. Their wedding became a way to honour that love, to acknowledge what has been missed and what remains deeply present. A celebration of gratitude, connection and shared history.
The result is a story made of quiet elegance and joyful chaos. Of nostalgia and laughter. Of beauty found in the in-between moments. A wedding lived fully, without performance, held gently by the walls of a family home and by the people who matter most.
A timeless celebration, just as it was meant to be.
