Intimate Maternity Photography Session on Film

There are moments in life that deserve to be held quietly.

This was one of them.

I met this beautiful couple at a moment just before everything was about to change. They came to me with a clear sense of who they are: a shared aesthetic, a quiet elegance, and values that made the connection feel natural from the very beginning. They asked me to accompany them through one of the most meaningful journeys of their lives, documenting the pregnancy, the anticipation, and eventually the arrival of their child.

This maternity photography session became the first chapter of that story.

We kept things simple and intimate. Natural light, honest gestures, the space between two people who are already becoming a family. Nothing was constructed, nothing needed to be performed. Just their presence, their tenderness, and the quiet anticipation of someone who had not yet arrived.

I photographed the story using both film and digital, allowing the two mediums to exist together. Film brings its grain, softness and imperfection. Digital gives me another way of observing what is happening in front of me. Together, they become part of the same visual language.

But for me, the story does not end when the shutter closes.

The negatives are developed in my studio, scanned by hand, and, whenever possible, brought back into the physical world through darkroom and fine art printing. There is something deeply meaningful in watching an image slowly appear in the water of the darkroom, almost as if the photograph is being born for a second time.

It felt like the right metaphor for this story.

A new life, slowly taking shape.

First, there was waiting.

Then, there was holding.

The same light, the same hands, but everything had changed.

From maternity to newborn, from anticipation to presence, these photographs are two halves of the same story. A record of a brief and unrepeatable passage in their lives, made to become more than a collection of images: something they can hold, revisit, and eventually share with the person at the centre of it all.

A quiet beginning.

A new family becoming.
