Marrakech. It’s a 1,000-year old city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the great cities of the world. It is also a thriving, hip, colorful fantasy of a destination, and one of our favorite places to spend time. We are certain it should be considered for that special, unique and off-the-beaten-path destination wedding.
Set in the valley beneath the snowy Atlas Mountains, Marrakech has been immortalized in song for good reason:
“Colored cottons hang in air
Charming cobras in the square
Striped Djellebas we can wear at home
Don’t you know we’re riding on the Marrakesh Express”
Crosby, Stills & Nash
The colors you will find in Marrakech – the brilliant, bright, gorgeous colors, the red of the palace clay, the brown of the henna dyes – and the sounds you will find in Marrakech– the mournful, spiritual call to prayer of the muezzin, the snake charmers’ flutes, the flights of the exotic birds, the sound of mothers calling to their children, the buzz of vendors and crowds alike in the old souks – are truly extraordinary.
Marrakech offers some jaw-dropping possibilities for the bride and groom looking to combine the exquisite elegance and opulence of some of the Mahgreb’s finest palaces with the unquestionably hip allure of a city bursting at the seams with the energy and vibrance of youth. Some of our favorite venues for Marrakech destination weddings include: La Mamounia (a world-renowned five-star hotel), the Riad Al Fenn, the magnificent and opulent Royal Mansour, The Selman, The Palais Ghoul, and the nearby (35-minute drive from Marrakech), Palais Namaskar in Palmeraie. Of course there are many other options, as well, but these are among our favorites and, as photographers, we are drawn to the stunning scenery and décor these venues provide.
Or, perhaps you have your hearts set on a destination wedding in the Moroccan desert. There are desert locations closer to Marrakech like La Pause and others require some travel (10-12 hours’ drive). Some of the most popular desert locations to check out are Zagora, Merzouga and Erg Chigaga. The scenery is absolutely spectacular, and if it’s a wedding of distinction you are looking for, look no further. This is it. You might even consider putting the bridal party on camels…
My studio partner, Lucrezia, and I love working in Marrakech! While most of our weddings are in Europe, we regularly travel to places like Australia and North Africa, and love the exoticism and, of course, the Moroccan light. The setting for your destination wedding becomes part of the story we help to tell.
You’ll see that we do not necessarily call ourselves wedding photographers. We are visual storytellers specializing in destination wedding photography. We work to tell your story and to capture the beauty and excitement of the most special day in your lives in completely natural and surprising ways.
Let us tell you a bit about how we work. Our work is both organic and natural. We look for the story elements: the moments of romance, the moments of joy, the color of the sky, the sun on a silk gown, the reflection of the water, the cascading prisms of light refracted through a wine goblet. We are not the photographers hired to “work a wedding” and produce a certain number of pictures of “his side” or “her side”. Absolutely not us. We look to give you photos to make you smile. And cry. And produce every emotion in between.
Because ours is a small, exclusive studio, we are unfortunately limited in the number of clients we are able to take on. We would love to hear from you.
Contact us today and follow us on instagram, we hope to be part of your special day.
