At Tuscany’s Borgo Pignano: elegance, a love for the ages

Flowers. Flowers of truly unrepeatable beauty. Buds and blossoms, berries, branches, sprigs – all so lush and so natural, so simple and therefore so sophisticated, so elegant, so perfect. Works of art. Like frescoes, grown in nature, nurtured and shared. And for that we must acknowledge and pay homage to La Rosa Canina Firenze, floral design geniuses. La Rosa Canina is a family-owned business, and there is a beautiful aesthetic so very rarely seen.

Flowers. We’ll come back to the idea of such beauty, of such subtle and delicate and perfect expression of nature, because when we talk about our bride and groom, Elif and Arnold, these are the very words we will once again use.

As destination wedding photographers, our work takes us to many extraordinary venues. The Borgo Pigano may truly rank as one of the most stunning and the most memorable, especially as it will always remind us of Elif and Arnold, and a love so generous and so caring. So nurturing.

Borgo Pignano is a short drive from the Tuscan hill towns of Volterra and San Gimignano, and within easy reach of the medieval cities of Siena and (our home town) Florence. Dating back to Etruscan times, today the Borgo features 750-acres of much cherished organic farmland and features an 18thCentury villa in a setting 500 meters above sea level. The Borgo commands some of the most stunning views of Tuscany, stretching all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. There is a feeling here of being steeped in history – not just Italian history, but the history of souls.

When we were first in contact with them, Elif shared that it was love at first sight. They met at a wedding, and soon discovered that they shared a deep and unique bond: both Elif and Arnold are of mixed cultures, and both have lived in several different countries. Old souls. Deep souls, with stories that blend and mix and intertwine. As Elif said, “I felt as if I had met him before or had known him my whole life. He was kind, charming and natural. We clung together from that moment on for the rest of the weekend. And pretty much every day since.”

The wedding was a fairy tale perfect blend of elegance – Elif’s magnificent lace gown, drawing to a V down her back and visible through the lush cascades of Elif’s hair; Arnold’s tailored tuxedo that somehow managed to set off the aquamarine of his blue eyes; the string trio playing No.8 Passacaile; the parents of the bride and the groom in stunning shades of deep olive green and French blue – and of whimsy, originality and Elif’s and Arnold’s shared love of nature – the ring bearer holding an octagonal terrarium, the gold bands resting atop sprigs of fresh green; Elif’s gorgeous bouquet, both traditional and wild at the same time; and the jazz trio with electric guitar that filled the air with a free and spirited beat.

We asked Elif and Arnold what they personally find beautiful. Their answers were drawn from the natural world: the erosion of sea shells and stones, the ocean, the feeling of seclusion when spending time in the natural world, the rustling of leaves, the salty sea breeze.

It isn’t just about a magnificent venue. It isn’t just about extraordinary floral designs. It isn’t even the perfect dress or the flawless tuxedo or the right piece of music. Each of this contributes, yes. But the true magic  is something deeper. It is the love of what is around us – in nature, in the cosmos, in history, in our souls – that made Elif’s and Arnold’s coming together in what Elif called “a rite of passage”, in the loving presence of friends and family, so completely exquisite.

A moment, yes, but a lifetime, as well.
